Therapy
"Clients
say I'm interactive and directive in sessions, and that they like it.
By creating an active dialogue, I afford them the benefits of insight
and guidance in a just a few sessions, without prolonging the need for
therapy or putting their lives on hold." - Dr. John E. Northman
Dr. Northman practices
solution-focused therapy which enables the client, with his help, to
define problems and create solutions.
During an initial interview
Dr. Northman aims to accomplish several objectives:
- Connect with the client
- Understand what brings
the client to therapy
- Begin to assess the
client, the client’s history, and the client’s situation
- Formulate an initial
plan for therapy.
Everyone has strengths. In
effective therapy Dr. Northman helps to identify and build upon those
personal assets or strengths. So often it is such significant personal
strengths that become the foundation for effective, meaningful, positive
change.
With his strong professional
background and training in both human development and family systems,
Dr. Northman can assess the single or multiple themes and issues
relevant to an individual, a couple or a family. Therapy can then
become effectively targeted toward resolving specific issues.
As a board-certified family
psychologist, Dr. Northman can focus rapidly in assessing complex family
and relationship issues. Populations served include:
- Individuals (including
children, teens and adults)
- Couples
- Families.
